ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- Students and families at Colonie Central High School are still questioning why some students were punished after walkouts over racism
Students and parents reported some students were punished and in some cases suspended for taking part in walkouts and other protests at the school.
NewsChannel 13 spoke with attorney Ryan McCall at McCall, Sweeney & Silva, PC on why the school can discipline students in this case.
“Where the school district does have that authority is when it happens during school hours,” Ryan McCall said. “It can be considered disruptive to other students in the school district, and that’s when they have that authority from an administrative level to begin handing out discipline.”
